Article 21A of Indian Constitution – Right to Education in India

Article 21A of the Constitution of India guarantees the Right to Education as a Fundamental Right for children between the ages of 6 to 14 years. It ensures that every child has access to free and compulsory elementary education without discrimination.

What is Article 21A?

Article 21A states:

The State shall provide free and compulsory education to all children of the age of six to fourteen years in such manner as the State may, by law, determine.

This constitutional provision was inserted through the 86th Constitutional Amendment Act, 2002, making education a legal right for children in India.
